The Dance Teacher Life

Dancewear Favorites: The Best and Greatest From My Closet

For dancers and dance teachers, dancewear is important. My twin (who also a dance teacher), always say: “I’m nicer when I like my outfit.” Can any of you relate to this sentiment? I sure can. And, whether you are social dancing or teaching your students, everyone can benefit from us being in a good mood, right? Right.

Apart from the fact that what we wear has the ability to affect our mood toward others, it’s important to remember that dancing is a joy and a blessing, so why not wear clothes that match that feeling? I recently listened to a fantastic episode of the “Grow With Shea” Podcast entitled “Finding Your Style, Capsule Wardrobes and Healing Trauma Associate with Trying on Clothes” in which Shea interviews Kathryne Cole, a wardrobe stylist. I LOVED what they both had to say about how what we wear affects our mindset and how we approach our days.

P.S. Check out the “What Box?” merch line that Shea and I have launched! Not only are these great products, destined to become some of your new favs, but the messaging is one that will resonate with all artists.

As dancers, the way we approach our classes is of paramount importance. That’s why I’m going to share with you some of my wardrobe favorites that make me feel ready to conquer any dance floor whether I’m setting out to teach a ballet class of littles, a salsa workshop for adults, or simply social dancing bachata with my favorite leads. Let’s dive in!

Marika Women’s Odessa High Waist Tummy Control Bermuda Pocket Short

It’s great to have a go-to pair of shorts in your dancewear closet.

Let’s start off with my favorite shorts first.

I adore Marika workout clothes. Here’s why I love these shorts:

Every dancer needs a reliable pair of black leggings.

Every girl might need a little black dress. But every dance teacher needs a pair of little black leggings. 90 Degree Reflex are my favorite because:

  • The waistband DOES NOT BUDGE
  • Soft
  • Retain shape
  • Pockets
  • Do not fade every when washed every week

Uhventure is an incredible company that supports the goals of go-getters and the wellness of the planet both! I have been extremely impressed with the quality and durability of their clothes. Their clothing might be geared toward outdoor adventurers, but I think we can all agree dancing is an adventure of it’s own. Here is why I love this crop top:

  • Keeps shape
  • Durable
  • Supportive material
  • Flattering
  • Stays put

Ocean Tide Sports Bra

A great, all-purpose sportsbra.

For 10% off, use CODE: artistthing at checkout!

Another favorite from Uhventure. This sports bra is so cute and comfortable. It is great under your favorite workout shirt or dancewear cover-up or on it’s own. Why I love it:

  • Supportive
  • Durable
  • Flattering
  • Cute design on the back

GORTIN Boho Headbands

Add a little pizzaz with a headband.

Bad hair day? No problem. These headbands by GORTIN are incredible for keeping the hair out of your face or for hiding bedhead from that nap you snuck in before social dancing or before teaching (we’ve all done it). Or, if you never have bad hair, they are still a great way to add a little pizazz to your dancewear wardrobe. Here is why I love them:

  • Stay in place
  • Cute boho design (I love their bandana patterned one as well)
  • Machine washable (I hang dry)

Thanks for taking a look at a few of my favorites. Do you own any of these? What are your must-have dancewear items? Feel free to comment!

Happy Dancing!
